We starteed discussing having a raffle in the Cerveza string, but I wanted to start a separate converstation. Is this something we want to do? I don't think it would be too hard for us to get some swag, gift certificates, etc donated to the club.

Raffle for Cerveza de Mayo
I think this is definitely a good idea. We did at some early parties, and people were very in to it. Good for scaring up some donations to the club, and it's also a good way to get some other companies and organizations invested in what we're doing.
Yeah. Jared of Brew Camp used to set up a table. We even had some donations from Midwest supplies.
I think people got pretty excited about it and I personally thought it a nice touch to have a pause in the night where we could not only announce winners but also offer a face-to-face "Thank you!" to people for their support, membership, and attendance.
Let's do it! I'll create a spreadsheet over the weekend for people to post donated prizes.
Jeff, I've hosted a lot of fundraisers before. I founded and used to run "Beer for Boobies," which was an annual fundraiser event to raise money for breast cancer charities. I'd be happy to help with this and share my knowledge on what worked best. I'd also be happy to donate a pair of Blackhawks tix and I'm sure some other businesses who used to donate for Beer for Boobies, would be happy to chip in as well especially the BYOB places, since it's beer related.
Nancy, that would be great! Let's talk on Sunday!
Here's a basic spreadsheet for raffle items:

Anyone who has resources for raffle items, please feel free to contribute! Thanks.
What about a pinata? It was tons of fun last year (or whenever that was). Maybe ask the LHBSs if they can donate dry yeast packets, hops, and other misc. small/non-breakable brew stuff to load it with?
Could be $5 for three swings or s.t. like that...
I'm already have plans for the pinata. I was more picturing a mad rush for the contents once they spill open. Let's stick with the raffle for raising cash and leave the pinata for fun.
Right-o!
Jeff - Is beer an acceptable item to donate for this? I don't think I will be able to get a brewed beer together, so I thought I could donate some beer instead. I know we used to do this at events, then stopped at some point, but i thought it was pretty popular. I was thinking maybe a couple of mixed 4-packs or bombers of barrel aged stuff, bcs, kbs, that kind of thing. Let me know what you think.
I think that's a great idea, Rich!
Ok, I'll dig some stuff out and put it on the list. You can bundle it however you think best.
This is great, thanks Rich! Also, thanks Nancy and Conrad for the cool prizes!
Tapping my buddy Blake, the "schwagmeister". He should be able to open some doors for us with local contacts.
Awesome, thanks Matt!
I had the idea of donating some of each of the barrel aged beers from the last brewhouse. Could put together a few 4 packs of bombers (The BCS clone, the imperial red, the barleywine, the old ale). I think guests would dig taking that home. Let me know what everyone thinks.
I think that's a great idea, Kyle. Rich has donated some high quality beer (BCS, KBS, and a couple others), so it would be cool to have some club beer, as well.
Do we have raffle tickets? I thought someone mentioned us having some in another thread, but can't find it....
There's a roll of them at the brewhouse...don't recall how many are left exactly but I'd say there's enough for Cerveza...
I also have some at home, if needed, I can bring them in.
Are the KBS, BCS, and Blackhawk tickets definite prizes?
I am willing to donate at least 2 (if not all 5) of our Cubs season tickets. But, that might actually discourage people from entering the raffle.
LMK ASAP as I'm about the announce the "share for a free raffle ticket" contest on FB.
Yes, I'm definitely donating a pair of Blackhawks tickets to a Fall 2014 game of your choice, among 3 options that will be offered, once the schedule is released.
Nancy and/or Jeff...do we have a spreadsheet going of the prizes and who is donating said prize(s)?
Yes, Jeff made one earlier on this thread.

Thanks...I added Kyle's CHAOS Barrel-Aged Bomber 4 Pack to the List.
Do you just want my stuff at the event or is someone collecting it? I will probably add a couple more things just to round mine out to 4-packs.
I would at least like the prizes at the brew house during the event. Just to give the winners an option to bring their prize home with them.
I've been so fixated on the prizes that I over looked this one piece of important info: How much should we charge for a raffle ticket?
I'm thinking $2/ticket and $5/three. Thoughts?
Yeah, that sounds about right, Jeff.
Also, in retrospect, I'm wondering if we shouldn't have made the FB "share" thing a winner need-not-be-present thing. As of now, the only incentive to share and get the free raffle ticket is if that very person is also going to Cerveza de Mayo... Basically, we wanted tons of sharing to happen (in the hopes it converts into attendees/memberships).
That's a good structure, Jeff. The prizes people are putting up are wonderful and gracious. Big thanks to all who are donating.
I prefer people be present to win. It rewards the people who actually come to the event and is more fun in my opinion.
Agreed.
Fair enough. I don't necessarily disagree but I was wondering if we're actually working against ourselves by making it a must-be-present thing. Our goal was people sharing it to help us promote the event but there's no incentive to share it unless they're going which is a very, very small subset of people who will see the post.
At least Jeff and I get our free raffle ticket! :-)
Jim, You are overthinking this one...Participants need to be present to win, we aren't going to be hunting down people via Facebook stalking after the event is over.
You can do promotions like that any time that are not tied to event attendance. Just give something away for sharing a link that promotes membership to CHAOS or whatever.
Got it.
Just scored a beginner's brewing equipment kit and two vouchers (each voucher is good for two people) for a beginner's brewing class from Brew & Grow.
Sweet!!!
