CHAOS ELECTIONS 2019 - Board of Directors (3 Years)

If you would like to nominate a CHAOS Member or yourself for one of the four available board positions please do so by replying to this thread.

Edit:

Please note that three of the positions are currently held by me, Mark Walters, and Steven Lane. These are three year terms.

The third is a two year term that fills the position vacated by Jayson Gowdy (temproarily filled by James Tsai.) Please indicate, when accepting your nomination, if you wish to run for the full three years or complete the two year position.

There is nothing in the bylaws which prevent a director from voluntarily contributing monetarily to the club but above and beyond money the board of directors is comprised of people who are devoted to the club emotionally, physically, mentally, intellectually, and socially; what they really offer is ideas, encouragement, making connections for the club as well as within the club, giving the club direction, community building initiatives (e.g., identifying and fostering future committed and active members), and enthusiastically and energetically promoting the club’s mission (which is, first and foremost, education and community involving home and craft brew).

Board of Director Member Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Must be present at a minimum of 9 (out of 12) monthly board meetings (attendance may be via telephone, i.e., someone who is present putting you on speaker phone);
  • Must contribute time and energy continually and substantially to the benefit of the club. This may include but is certainly not limited to: being present at club events (classes, festivals, etc.); organizing and arranging the brew house; participating in online and in-person discussions.
  • Discussing – and subsequently approving/denying – requests and proposals from Officers;
  • Making contacts and reaching out to people on behalf of the club (including potential and current partners);

Directors can, should, and will be subject to removal “with or without cause” (according to the bylaws) by simple majority vote of the other board of directors. Basically what that means is that Directors must indeed continually and substantially devote time and energy to the club lest other directors deem you are not “pulling your weight” and vote you off the island.

Note: Any posts that are not a nomination (this includes discussion about candidates) will be deleted without mercy.

As I have a baby coming in

As I have a baby coming in the next few weeks, I'm taking some time off from the board and won't be seeking a seat this year.

I'm proud to nominate one of our very long time members of the club, Chuck McCoun to the board. Chuck has served on the board previously, as well as having served as VP. Chuck is a true work horse of the club. He's been involved in just about every building construction project we've had. Chuck had a huge role in the move to this location and built the gas lines. He's a great voice of what's possible as we continue to grow. Few members have had such an enduring commitment.

I'd like to nominate Jeff

I'd like to nominate Jeff Whepley to the board. He's a solid voice of reason for the club & he deserves a seat at the table when it comes down to making decisons for the club that will impact CHAOS' future.

What other two seats are up?

Can we get some clarity on whose seats are up and who is on the board and when they were elected? I think there may be another seat up (there should be three 3-year terms available, and Gowdy's 2-year term).

 I had overlooked Steven's

 I had overlooked Steven's position, which was temporary, so there are actually four board spots up for election this year.

Mark and I were elected in 2016, so our spots are part of this year's election. James Tsai's board election in 2016 was a temporary spot that was up for re-election in 2018. James nominated himself during last year's election meeting, but did not receive enough votes.

Jay was elected last year salong with Jon and Rich.

Please see the edit above for the simplified version.

The board positions currently held by Brandon, Todd, and Reed will be next year's open board positions.

I'd also like to nominate two

I'd also like to nominate two other prospective board memebers: Ben Resch & Kevin Wilhelm.

As we all know Ben is our treasurer and has an intimate working knowledge of our brew club and its financial responsibilities. I believe Ben can provide valuable insights moving forward on how to future strengthen the health of CHAOS and his vote would be greatly valued.

Kevin is an "up-and-comer" if you will. Since day one he has been deeply involved with CHAOS and its activites. I think it's important to keep some new blood on the board as it will bring a rounded aspect to the decisions we make down the road.

Both are solid candidates.

Ha! Fair enough.

Ha! Fair enough.

I would like to nominate Steven Lane for another term. Of the many things he does for the club a few are:

- He does a ton of high level CHAOS representation with the biking community, often resulting in new members and funding through donations.
- He's the main architect of the club's branding and the first impression the general public has of the club when encountering us on social media or other outlets such as clothing, glasses, and other swag.
- He is the person we also look to when renovating the non-brewing areas of the brewhouse.

All of this is much easier to implement while possessing the decision making authority of a board of director member.

Thanks Jeff, I am up for

Thanks Jeff, I am up for another term as a board member. I figure if I'm going to work on the club year round, I should at least have a title ;-)

I would like to add that this year I wrote the club's submission for AHA's Radegast Club of the Year award, which took forever and a day:

I'm looking forward to the club's 10th anniversary, and I'll use my next term to make sure it's amazeballs.
