TV placement
Mounted flat against the wall above the window.
18% (3 votes)
Mounted on a swing arm in the upper left corner of the front wall
82% (14 votes)
Total votes: 17

Body:

Folks,

I'd like to get the stave wall finished before Mash Tun on March 19th.  However the problem is that a decision on TV placement has not been made.  So I am putting up this poll to see where the majority of members would like the TV place.

I believe there are reall only 2 locations.
1. Mounted flat against the wall above the window.
2. Mounted on a swing arm in the upper left corner of the front wall

I really do not want to debate the placement more then this as we are running out of time.

Not sure how else to address this since there is no meeting until April so I'll leave this poll open until Tuesday March 8th at midnight.  That will give us 10 days to get the parts and get the TV and the staves mounted.

What is the point of choosing that option James?

It allows people to be

It allows people to be involved who think both options age good. If 4 people are for option 1 and 6 people are for option 2, it does not seem like very many people are involved and that the decisions is somewhat divisive. But If you have an option 3, for people like me, you may have 20 people who think both are good choices and therefore a more evenly divided decision does not matter so much.

Its a way of building consensus and creating a participatory process.

Sorry James, I refuse to be

Sorry James, I refuse to be wishy-washy when it comes to TV placement.  Swing arm is knocking it out of the park, pun intended.

Sorry James.

Sorry James.

What would happen if it gets 15 votes, 5 for each of the 3 categories.  Who wins?  Who picks who wins?

This is a one or the other choice.

Please excuse the crudeness

Please excuse the crudeness of the drawing. I don't think there's really anything for us to decide here. One articulating mount should be able to be positioned at the end of the bar, and then the TV can be pulled into the corner and angled, or articulated out to toward the door so you can see it from down the hall

So just get something like ths and we're good:

What are we doing for

What are we doing for entertainment? Chome stick? Fire? Should we put enough in the budget for a receiver and additional sound system?

I would vote for $200 for a cheap reciever and speakers and TV mount for this project.

50/60 bucks and I can set the tv up to:

Play netflix/amazon/hulu etc (will have use your own account though)

Work as a computer: play music, do presentations, youtube, skype etc

play old school video games.

It can also be used to do other things; like display signs or the beers in the keezer or photo's or etc.

Inventory/items needed:

35$ rasberri pi

15$ sd card, possibly wifi dongle (new one has one, so might not be needed)

?$ keyboard and mouse. wireless would make sense here; but it's more expensive.

Just an option; I know this is pretty "newfangled" so might not be a winner.

Let's focus here, guys and

Let's focus here, guys and gals. We need a location picked out and a mount purchased or else this TV will sit on the floor forever and become a victim of our overflowing plumbing.

Content is fine. Kyle has an OTA HD antenna. Some other people have HDMI dongles of various sorts they are welcome to plug in. BYO laptop and VGA cable. Not critical at this juncture.

Question for Wes, Bill or

Question for Wes, Bill or anyone that knows what's behind the plywood that's hanging on the north wall -- is there a stud or anything solid back there for us to mount to? Before pic included for reference.

The plywood with staves

The plywood with staves mounted to it is intented to be removable so if we ever want to move we can take it with us.  I will reinforce the area of the mount and make sure it is secure to the wall.  (Please just provide the TV mount and specify the location and let me know when ready, i will install the staves and the mount at the same time.)  Has any one thought about an electrical connection for the tv?  I can install a box with conduit while I'm at it.

Wes.  According the spec

Wes.  According the spec sheet from Vizio for the TV it weighs in at 67.2lbs.  Do you think that we will be able to safely mount this?

Hey Bill, if you are looking

Hey Bill, if you are looking into parts for mounting the TV, post some links to products and itemize the costs. I will work with the board to approve the purchase if it is over $75.

Here's a few options similar to Matt's suggestion:

VideoSecu $35

Manhattan $75

Swivel $140

Wes broke a couple of ribs, so we are going to wait a couple of weeks before we install. The barrel stave panel will be built around the TV.

The goal is to have the TV up and operational for Cerveza de Mayo, Sat May 9. We'll probably have it up and running a few weeks in advance, but we should get started on ordering parts.

Since the pitch of the mounting holes is 630mm horizontally and 200mm vertically I think the best bet will be the Manhattan @ $75

The blanket is on the floor

The blanket is on the floor under the drink rail and the remote was on the bar, at least they were there on Sunday.
