CHAOS will be hosting a homebrew competition on Saturday April 14th from 3pm to 6pm at the Brew House (1329 W. Grand Ave.)

This competition is part of the Lagunitas Club Competition.  The winner of this contest will go on to a second round, competing against other winners from the Chicago area.

If your brew is picked in the 2nd round, you will win a trip out to the west coast to brew your batch at Lagunitas. The trip will include: flight to CA, transportation to and from the airport, hotel, meals and beverages, complimentary entrance into the Lagunitas Amphitheater for a concert, brewery tour and, of course, the opportunity to brew a beer which will be sold in your home market with Lagunitas Head Brewer Jeremy Marshall.  All winners agree to have their names & photos appear in an issue of Zymurgy.

Guidelines:

There are no style guidelines EXCEPT….no lagers (due to tank space), must be made with American yeast, no fruit, herbs or spices added. Your entry will be a representative sample and the final winning beer’s recipe will be tweaked and fine-tuned with the Retailer/Home Brewer Team along with Lagunitas’ Head Brewer.

Format:

For this competition, judging will be conducted by the public in a popular vote format.  Each brewer will submit their beer to be judged on April 14th in a public event held at the CHAOS Brew House.  The crowd in attendance will sample brewer's offerings, cast their votes, and choose a winner.

Submission Quantities:

Each entry is required to submit a minimum of 6 bottles.  If your brew is picked in Round 1 (the CHAOS shootout), your six bottles will be submitted in Round 2, the regional competition.

Round 1 submission (shootout)

For the CHAOS Homebrew Competition Shootout, brewers are encouraged to keg their beers in a 5 gallon Corny keg.  This makes for the easiest serving method.  However, brewers may choose to bottle as an alternative.  If you are bottling, please keep in mind that you must bring enough bottles to allow the public to adequately sample and evaluate your brew.

Registration:

Entry forms can be filled out here and require a $5 fee to be paid on the day of the event.  The entrance fee will go towards covering costs of cups, trash bags, ice, etc.

Deadline to enter is April 7th.  Each entry can be dropped off at the Brew House up until the event on the 14th.
