James, everyone probably just

James, everyone probably just assumes (rightly so) that I'll win the top 2 overall spots with my entries. Might as well not waste their time ;)

But seriosuly,if you've never entered a BJCP competition I'd highly recommend it. It's great to get feedback on both your beers and your processes through the judges score sheets.

I need to start bottling a 12

I need to start bottling a 12 pack of 12 ounce bottles for competitions. I'm sitting on a few batches of stellar brews in bombers (FML!)

Would it be a good idea to

Would it be a good idea to post a tentative event on our event calendar - instead of just a post in a thread to get pushed off the list - for the competitions which are annual? That way, people can actually brew for them instead of just grabbing what they may have on their shelf?

There is a competition

There is a competition calendar for all the BJCP competition in the country.

http://www.bjcp.org/apps/comp_schedule/competition_schedule.php

While the months tend to be similar the dates/weekends change on many competitions from year to year. Some competitions get dropped completely. Like the CBS spooky brew.

If you want to brew for competition seriously you should learn the Midwest homebrewer of the year circuit schedule and brew for competitions in that.

There could be a dozen

There could be a dozen calendars I personally *should* be watching...I was talking about on our CHAOS site; If we want to encourage club representation, we should have the PR person (or someone) put tentative place-holder events on our chaosbrewclub.net events calendar to remind people it's coming up.

I think that's silly, no one

I think that's silly, no one is going to look at our calendar 6 months to a year in advance to decide what to brew for a competition. And no one should be asked to maintain a list of competitions when there are already good lists out there.

Then that should answer your

Then that should answer your question where the representation is.

If I can count on one hand which CHAOS members know about or remember the competition, there's where the CHAOS representation is.

I agree. I think putting local comps on the calendar is not a bad idea
though...once the dates have been established. But putting all seems
over the top.

I also don't think its a matter of saying that the calendar will solve
all our problems. The issue isn't that people aren't doing it because
its not on the calendar. I think its more so that people have to be
encouraged to enter competitions - or even, in my case, reminded.

Do we have a competitions committee? Might be something worth while.
Someone that can make an announcement in meeting letting people know
what comps are on the horizon and in general some to rally some the
troops and ask for people to compete in various competitions.

Nor was i suggesting ALL: I just meant comps which we want to encourage club=
participation and/or local.

It's the same day as Chili

It's the same day as Chili and Stout Night, right? I saw you post on CBS, and was wondering if anyone was doing both, and if judging be done in time. Also, what is winterbrewfest?

The judging is the same day

The judging is the same day as Stout and Chilli, there are a handful of judges coming as CHAOS has generously given a free trial membership to the judges of the Winterbrew competition. We will be a little late, hopefully there by 6.

Winterbrew = http://lincolnsquare.org/pages/WinterBrew/

It is sold out at this point.
