Auto-siphons

The brew house is down to one auto-siphon. If anyone plans to be at a home brew shop in the near future , please pick up three large ones. If not, I can have some there by next Friday. Thanks!

Any opinions on if we should

Any opinions on if we should think seriously about how to deal with shortage of equipment (the perpetual hydrometer, autosiphons, etc.)? if we should stock up? If we should look at alternatives? If we're cool with the status quo?

I don't know what to do about

I don't know what to do about this stuff.  These items are the easiest to break and there are now a ton of people using the brew house, so they are always going to need replacing.  It all depends on if we think the advantage of having them available for our members outwieghs the pain in the ass of always replacing them.

Dropped off 3 new large auto

Dropped off 3 new large auto siphons at the brew house today.  Tested all 3.  They were place in the bottling bucket.

Thanks, Bill!

Thanks, Bill!

I'm pretty ambivalent as to how we handle it. I just ask that people throw out the broken ones AND keep the new ones together. i.e., you can take them apart for cleaning but then put them back together! For the Brewing 101 bottling session a few weeks ago, I had to piece together a working autosiphon; all of them were apart.

Auto siphons need to be

Auto siphons need to be cleaned, sanitized and left apart until used again. Keeping them together (wet) breeds bugs.

well,we have to get our

well,we have to get our message clear on this.

I've found them together and wet and have had no problem with bugs or anything; ive found them apart and NONE of the constituent parts fit together air tight (i.e., I dont get suction at worst, air bubbles at best). I opt for wet and together.

this is just yet another thing which makes me want to cancel my membership. Ridiculous there's no protocol on this with the result it messes with people's bottling plans. really poor form and really bad impression in general but esp. in front of the brewing 101 folks (we managed but this is why I'm a little hot under the collar about the bottling equipment situation).

Then do something about it!

Then do something about it! You're right, the bottling station needs work for sure. It needs a pegboard and all the equipment hung just like the bays as well as instructions on how to properly store everything.

If you're saying you're going to cancel your membership because you like it A and someone else like it B without discussing it - I don't know what to tell you.

I prefer them apart, they dry

I prefer them apart, they dry better in my opinion.  However, I do not feel "cancel my membership" strongly about it.  Maybe "let's arm wrestle" strong...

No, no, Matt. The club should

No, no, Matt. The club should do something about this.

I agree if it's cosmetic or not urgent, I can take time to tackle it. I - nor any other member - shouldn't have to go to the brewhouse twice to bottle: once, a day or two before, to make sure everything is there and in working order, and then a second time to bottle. That's absurd. There are a few basic necessities the club needs to start covering.

The fact that some of the basic necessities keep taking the back seat to other frivolous acquisitions, updates, and events to the brewhouse/club - for four years now seeing as I've been in the club nearly since its inception - is the kind of stuff that makes me increasingly frustrated and intolerant of to the point of quitting.

Practically speaking, however, if members are going to have to start bringing equipment to the brewhouse just to ensure they have a clean/functional X, Y, and Z on their brew/bottling day, why not just brew at home? (Which defeats the whole purpose of a brew club).
