Lager Dan?
I cant make it Sunday, prior commitment, sorry.
How did it go? Anyone wnat to recap?
The blending session went well. We took 5 gallons out of the old ale barrel to use in the blend. We refilled the barrel with a total of 13 gallons of fresh old ale (5 gallons removed + 8 gallons angel's share). There was quite a bit of headspace from evaporation.
With the 5 gallons of Barrel Aged Elixir we worked out 7 different blends. The blend batches included a barelywine, brown ale, and small portion of non-barreled old ale. We started by calculating what the max allowable percentage of each beer could be...then reduced it to the smallest proportions in ml.
Elixir - 19 ml
Choc. Vanilla Brown ale - 17 ml
Barleywine - 14 ml
Non-Bbl Elixir - 2.4 ml
We made 7 different blends, using different proportions from each brew. Each amount was measured using a graduated syringe to get the most accurate meaurements possible. We deliberated for a long time...but narrowed it down to two blends. We then recomposed those blends...and voted on which we liked the best. Below is the final blend:
Elixir - 12ml
Brown - 17ml
Barelywine - 14ml
NB Elixir - 2.8ml
We then scaled things back up...blended, and bottled. We were all very happy with this blend and have high hopes for it once it is carbed.
