Group Buy Site Functionality

I know we've discussed this, in preparation for the next group buy I need to know a few specific pieces of information and I'm going to need some help prepping the catalog for our site.  Before we go getting the catalog in a dataset that I can use, I need to know the following:

  • What costs need to be associated with each individual product (sack, etc.)?  This could be a delivery charge, etc.
  • What costs need to be associated with each persons order?  Same as above.
  • How do we calculate that a pallet has been filled?  Can it be done automatically or will it be better to have a human do it and we give them a space to monitor these things?  Please think big picture, we may not always just be selling sacks of grain...
  • Who gets access to the group buy?  This will probably be a board decision in the end, but I'd like to hear everyone's thoughts!
  • I'm going to try and make a system to handle split requests, but that may be a future revision kinda thing, anyone have any ideas on how that should work?

For reference, I'm going to eventually need someone to convert the catalog into a usable format.  I know that Dave has a CSV, but I think that we're going to need more information that it contains.  I'll figure out the format once we figure out the above items.

Each order may run into a

Each order may run into a bunch of variables. The first consideration should be that of shipping (65 per pallet), lift gate service (15), and fuel surcharge (varies, but is usually vet low).

The pallet fee will be based solely on how many pallets we fill. 42 sacks of grain fill a pallet.

We also receive slight price breaks based on the amount of grain ordered. We have a spreadsheet listing all grains and their prices based on quantity price breaks.

I wonder if we can just indicate an assigned pallet when some selects an item. Sack 23 pallet 1 - grain type- Lucas. Then once the ordering is closed we can generate a final price. On our last order all the fees came out to about $2 per sack of grain for a single pallet.

I think this should be open to any tier member of chaos.
