the CHAOS council is working on putting together a number of tasting/fundraiser events - obviously the big 'ides of cider' event, but also underground pairing dinners and even pop up restaurants.
I thought I'd throw a post up here for people to introduce themselves. We get new members here on an almost daily basis but hear from only a very small fraction of them. Take a minute to introduce yourself, what you'd like to see out of a brewclub, if you're planning on coming out to any coming events, what you like to drink, what you brew, any other tidbits. Any questions you might have could be posted up here as well!
I contacted John from Farmhouse Brewing Supply about doing a bulk hop order. He told me to get an order together and he will see what he can do for us. I understand some people wanted to order through Hops Direct or one of the others out there. But they have limited selection to only what they grow. Hops Direct has only 16 varieties while John has 46. John has the cheapest prices on semi bulk that I have come across. He does his hops in 4 oz. increments which I think is awesome. With him being in Wisco I am sure we could go pick them up to save on shipping.
I'd like to encourage everyone who hasn't made the past few meetings and is interested to check out the meeting notes section. I've posted up notes from the last meeting and will be working on doing the notes from the one before sometime soon (they're long past due, apologies for slacking). This will give people a good idea of what's been discussed, planned, or hinted at.
Dan and I tested the clubs brew haus yesterday and here are a few notes.
The electric stove performed very well. It took just over an hour to bring a full 5 gallons to a roiling boil.
The vent fan needs to be moved closer to the stove to work properly.
The sink was completely useless because it would not drain. I suspect the hose we have hooked up to is a bit to long, but since it is not my hose I felt we should not cut it down till we got permission.
The space was comfortable with 2 guys brewing at the same time.
So, we're going to do a bulk hop order. I believe we can only get pellets. There's a wide variety and they appear to only be quarter lb amounts. The good catch is that you'll likely pay only a 50 cents to a dollar more to get 4 times the amount for what you'd pay for an ounce at brew n grow.
Niilo's spose to be in contact with John to see if we can get any better rates than the ones on the site.
We'll have to divide out shipping once the order is placed.
I will re-post on the CHAOS web-site any pertinent e-mails or information received via e-mail; or pass e-mails directed to any one person to the appropriate person.
