Secondary, why do it?

I wanted to get some discussion going on the idea behind secondary usage and why you shouldn't use one the majority of the time and see what your thoughts are.

So, I hear a lot about how someone has just racked their beer to secondary, usually within a week or two of brewing. Why are you doing this? I ask because there are many issues to take into account every time that you do something with your beer.

i have an addiction i need to satisfy. im considering a last minute wing nite at five star (1424 W. Chicago Ave, Chicago and Noble, near the brew club) at 7pm-ish.  let me know if you too have the craving.

25 cent wings, $2.50 tecates.  they have some good biers on tap like triple karmaliet and delerium tremens, amongst others.

this does not affect the regularly scheduled tho changed wing nite.  confused yet? good.

what to do with all this spent grain...

us who frequent the brew house to brew have a small problem.  we have no idea what to do with all the spent grain from so many batches.

 

we cant throw it in the city trash due to weight restrictions. i have already put too much in the compost, in the worm bin, and i really dont feel like spending all my free time baking dog treats.

 

so, i ask the community - do we have any alternatives? any ideas? anything that can move this grain along?
