Various brewhouse musings

Hey all I dropped by the brewhouse to transfer some beers and had a few things to share.

I dropped off a new(gently used) mash tun at the brewhouse. It's labeled with a brew organic sticker. The false bottom needs replaced with something better but it's still a relatively new cooler and with a better false bottom could be utilized by the club.

I also dropped off some growlers and howlers and placed them on the lager primary fridge. If anyone wants them they can take them otherwise I'm going to recycle them at end of week.

New to the Area

Hi! Not sure if this is the right place for this, but I am a longtime all-grain brewer that's new to Chicago, and pretty interested in checking out the facilities, meeting sdome people, and maybe brewing up a batch.

I chose the trial membership option, and tried to follow the link to find a Brew Buddy, but without luck (maybe it's my account type?).

Counter Flow Chiller in the Summer - Bring ICE!

Just a heads up ... I brewed today and the high was only 83ish outside. Water + many jugs of frozen OJ simply did not do the job - it took 30mins of recirculating at a dribble back into the kettle just to get to 72 degrees. And only then did I start to direct the flow into the fermenter.

Looks like you'll need straight ice to cool your wort down efficiently. Especially as the weather enters higher temperatures.

A new kind of supply group buy - Stainless Quick Disconnects

In our conversations at NHC we found a new product that may save us and help our sanitation. All stainless (w rubber o-rings) quick disconnects for ball lock kegs. Through the power of bulk buying, we can offer these to the membership at similar pricing to the plastic ones, $7.50 each. I'm going to set up a group buy for these right now. We have to order at least $200 to hit this price, half of that was accounted for just from members who saw them at NHC.
