For those of you who weren't there or haven't heard, Steven and James won us 3rd place with their "Lost Viking" gruit!
For those of you who weren't there, you don't know how big of a flop the homebrew competition was. In 2011, they made a big deal about the homebrew challenge results. They literally stopped the event about 30 minutes before the end of the Saturday afternoon session, got everyone's attention, and announced the winners (and then let everyone go back to drinking for a bit).
This year, however, was extremely aggravating and anticlamactic!
I had been trolling the hops direct site waiting for the pounds of amarillo and citra to be released this year. Then went out for a drink....came home and they are already sold out. They sold more then 400 lbs of citra and amarillo hops in 20 min. Let the hoarding begin.......this is going to be a tough year for thoes varieties. I give up.......but i do reccomend the cascade and centanials. I bought some last year and they were the best quality hops i ever purchased.
One of our initiatives is to partner with craft-beer-loving (and/or homebrew-loving) establishments. We have a lot to offer and we're asking for a discount for card-carrying CHAOS members in exchange. If you're interested in this (or other) membership-related initiatives, join the Membership Committee!
We need volunteers to help us mantiain and enhance the brewhose. This comittee will decided the priority of improvments, research materials and equiptment, and maintain the good working order of the brew house. We will meet on a monthly basis. Please reply to this thread if you would like to be on this comittee.
What's up everybody! In case you haven't heard we are doing a Homebrew competition at Goose Island. The winner will get the chance to brew their beer at Goose Island and be on tap. It is style specific. Imperial Stout!!!
We are, after all, a brew club and not a homebrew club. Just a plea to other beer drinkers to be conscientious about their drinking decisions. Your dollar ultimately impacts what's available to you.
Thought I would introduce myself. My name is Stephen, people call me Fresh from my last name. I work over at Brew Camp on the North Side and have been into the home brew hobby for pushing six years. Going to be stopping by the brew house on Saturday to see the space while some of you brew. Currently have a web membership but will upgrade my memebership after checking out the space. So Hello and look forward to meeting you guys!
