New and I have time to give

Forums:

Hey all.

I'm new to brewing and just recently took a class at Brew Camp. I have time to give and experience to gain. I'm just wondering if any brewers out there need any help brewing a batch or bottling. I'd love to help out and gain some hand on experience. I want to start brewing most beer I drink but would love to lend my time to someone who has done a few susccesful batches before I jump in. Please let me know if anyone plans to brew soon and if I can help in any way! Thank in advance.

Congratulations to Ben, Jeff and James!

At yesterday's Chicago Winterbrew, Ben R. earned a bronze medal for his Altbier, James F. earned two gold medals (Imperial Stout and Smoked Porter) and silver medal (Pomegranate Gose), and Jeff W. earned a silver medal for his sweet stout. James' stout was in one of my flights and it was delicious. Congratulations guys!

Plus, it seems like Ben is throwing down for the Altbier competition next month!

Would love to piggyback on someones establihed proxy relationship, rather than starting from scratch.

If you've got a memebership/proxy and don't mind sharing drop me a line.

Bourbon County Questions

Those of you who've done the fantasy league with me know I'm only the most amateur of beer collectors. Even when it comes to Bourbon Country from my own city I have a few questions.

(1) Did GI release more barleywine than BCS this year? and/or

(2) Did more places get their hands on barleywine?

I've seen barleywine - and NO stout - at places I didn't expect to see it like one-off liquor stores and two chains, Carnival foods and Jewel-Osco.

If you see something, clean something

Came in to brew today, and the brew house was in less-than-preferable condition. Glass cups all over the sink, trash (with food in it) not taken out, chiller was full of wort, PBW tub was full, autosiphons & wine thiefs sitting in the star san tub, overall mess. Also, the brew pots aren't like the mash tuns - you actually have to scrub them after brewing instead just rinsing them out.

Look, I get it. If you didn't make the mess, you don't want to clean it up. But this is how it works @ a community space: Leave it better or cleaner than how you found it.

NEW Water Report In

In case you're the type to add additions to your beers (gypsum, calcium chloride, acid, etc), here is the new water report I just received off of brew bay #3. I also attached what our older water report looked like VS the new one (via EZ Water Calculator). They're actually quite similar.

If you haven't experimented with water additions, EZ Water calculator is pretty simple to use & it's free! Link is below. I'll be laminating the report below and putting it on the wall by the fire extinguisher here sometime soon.
