Brewsters,

CHAOS is hosting a CHIditarod party on Sat Mar 21, 2-8pm, and I'm hoping to fill the keezer with kegs of beer to share with everyone (bottle donations work too).

CHIditarod is a costumed shopping cart race based on the Alaskan Iditarod, and the event collects food and raises money to help fight hunger in Chicago. The race is Sat Mar 2. We are hosting a post-race event for award winning teams and volunteers.

Hey Citizens of CHAOSville . . . .

Registration for the 2020 version of the Charlie Orr Memorial Chicago Cup is open!  Go to http://www.bossbeer.org/ChicagoCup/  , sign up and enter your beers.  Last year, CHAOS came in second in the club competition for the Chicago Cup - it is really amazing how well CHAOS as a club does in competitions these days.  And not just folks winning medals, but gold medals at the NHC and Best of Show beers.  Its really remarkable - those are rare accomplishments!

S&C - Beer engine beers wanted!

Forums:

Hi all!

We're still looking for a few beers for the beer engine in the Colorado Lounge.  Typically we've served UK styles, low carbonation, cellar temp (50's) which do really well on the hand pulled engine.

If anyone has beers that they'd like to tap there, please LMK and also add to the signup sheet.  For lighter British styles there is even still enough time to brew for it!

These British beers have done well at S&C,  especially with those +1's that may not be super fans of thick and heavy stouts.

Gin Barrel

We have an opening for a brewer to join the Belgian Golden Strong project in the Koval gin barrel.  In December, the third beer in that barrel, a Saison, won a medal at the Happy Holidays competition in St. Louis, in a category with 29 entries.  It's a great barrel.

You would need to be able to brew the recipe provided by the end of January.  Reply below if you'd like to join this group brew.

Bourbon Barrel

We have a space that has opened up on our Oppidan bourbon barrel project. This is a thirty gallon barrel, with six brewers.  We have an imperial stout in it now and will be emptying it and refilling it in the first half of February.

Smart Hub and Lights at the Brewhouse

Forums:

I started adding in smart hubs, lights, and switches to the brewhouse.
As of now, you still have to turn the switches on at the wall for the brewing area.

Right now we have....

  • 2 Google Nest Mini Hubs Installed (one by the computer and one by the stairs)
  • There are 4 lights and a switch for the fluorescents in the bar area
  • One switch in the brewing area with 4 lights in it (north side of the brew area)

You can say....

Brewhouse Lights

The front half (north four assemblies, I mean) of the fluorescent lights in the brew house aren't turning on.  They appear to be plugged in, although I didn't climb up to check up close or jiggle things around.  The lights in the bar have been changed out for the NYE party, I assume, but nothing else seems to hooked up to these lights.
