One of the initiatives that we are supporting is the participation in the American Homebrew Associations Club only competitions. It is a way to get our name out there and showcase the talent in our club.
We have started a monthly style education session based on the upcoming competition styles. They are intended to help club members better understand the history, ingredients, and techniques used to create a type of beer. We meet the last Wednesday of every month from 6:30-8.
There are a lot of barrels in the Brew house that are not being used. I can only assume a few of them have gone bad and are no longer useable. Anyone want to give or sell their rotten barrel to me? I need it in the next.few days
I am looking for vokunteers that would like to experiement with some barrel blending. As a group we brewed to fill a 53 gallon BCS barrel about 6-7 months ago. The beer that went into that barrel was an Old ale recipe called Elixir of Life.
I am looking for 2 brewers that would like to brew up the same Old Ale recipe. Once the two batches are done, a portion of the Aged Old ale will be removed from the barrel. The batches that were freshly brewed will then be add to the barrel to replace what was removed.
By now you should have received an e-mail regarding our new structure, namely incorporation as a 501c(3). Ning, however, has some limitations and the attached file with a description of "Director" and "Officer" did not go through. Find below the information contained in the attachment.
This Wed night, July 18'th we're doing a happy how at Paddy Longs @ 1028 W Diversey Ave.
As for beer, there is a $4 pint special for Summit Summer ale, and quite a healthy draft and bottle list, including a few bottles you won't see many places.
Just a reminder that next Wednesday, July 25 at 6:30 we will be having our monthly beer style class. Please see theses two posts for more information and to RSVP. Please RSVP so we know how much beer to buy.
HOPS is doing an inaugural keg only homebrew competition. They need 5 more entries if you are interested, but more importantly they need people to go and drink! $20 gets you the opportunity to 'judge' all of the beers. The event is Sat, July 28th in Bridgeport. The grand prize is brewing your beer with Pete Crowley at Haymarket!

After talking at the last monthly meeting Niilo has been kind enough to hook a few of us up with some 5g whiskey barrels from his buddy John at Farmhouse Brewing Supply. To save on the shipping, which is a lot for barrels, I'll be picking them up next Thurs when I'm in Rockford and will have them back to the brewhouse on Monday the 16th. Now here is where it gets interesting. I'm in for one, Justin is in for two, and we can't remember the 3rd person who said they were in for one. SOOOOO, if you were at the meeting and that person, reply here to claim your barrel.
what cool brew do you enjoy most on these dog days of summer?
goose island's berliner weisse was especially refreshing for me. it was a 312 Urban Wheat Ale base secondary fermented with Brettanomyces and Lactobacillus. yum.
