this is is a handy tool, no need to cool your wort to take a gravity reading, just get the temp and the reading and plug it in for your temp corrected reading.
The 10 gal. pot with no rubber on the valve handle apparently has a bad valve now. Was gonna use it today, valve is seized up, tried hot water and scrubbing it out to no avail.
So I've been mulling a lot about whole use of ingredients and considering using every ounce of everything, to reduce waste and just be thoughtful. Have we ever thought of starting a composting program at Chaos? We could use worm bins, and put it inside and they almost sustain themselves. Now then what would we do with the compost and the remnants? I'm glad you asked. What if we outsources the compost and the "tea" to farms that could grow Chaos Specific Hops, or grains. That could even be another step towards a Chaos based brewery or taproom.
When it rains, it pours! The same Kickstarter guys I posted about before got their money and are obtaining the rest so they are now looking for cast members. This is not the same as the William from Part 2 Productions beer show I also posted about previously. I guess this shows how hot craft and home brew is now!!!
At any rate, Ryan sent me the following:
I’m starting to cast our second cast member for the show and I’m wondering if you might know someone. This is what we wrote up.
Sierra Nevada "Beer Camp Across America" coordinator e-mailed us the following. If anyoen can help out, either call her directly or post a reply here and I'll pass it along to her!
Hello CHAOS Brew Club,
We are hosting Beer Camp Across America - Midwest Edition in Chicago this July and we are looking for some insight on local hop growers that might be able to provide us with about 25 potted hop bines to be used as decor at the festival! I was wondering if you have any contacts you could share with me?
Please do not bring the grain bins into the brew house. We had been doing this during winter because the grain was freezing, so it's no longer neccessary. As they are not water tight, there is now rancid wort on the floor by the storage bins and a puddle of the stuff along the ferm room. The brew house cannot be left in this condition.
If you are unable to carry your mash tun across the parking lot, feel free to wheel a bin to the garage door, but please return it to their location in front of our parking spaces. Thanks.
