After being inspired by a tweet I saw, I'm setting up a Chicago craft beer/Chicago spirits chaser thing for CHAOS. In the meantime, though, I was having difficulty "thinking outside the box" on craft beer/craft spirit combos. Anyone have any suggestions?
Brewed up a couple batches today, and as I was cleaning the mash tun (w/ hot water) the hot-water splitter connection underneath the sink closest to the bar sprung a leak. It was a pretty vicious outpour, but thankfully directly over the drain. I was unable to stop the deluge by turning off the hot water's main line underneath one of the brew tables.
Today is a very sad day, It looks like Cobra Lounge has stop doing their thursday night wing special. I guess they are replacing it with a rib tip special. Do you guys still want to go to Cobra next thursday for wings and just pay the regular price or do you want to try a different place?
So far the only decedent place I have found for thursday night wings specials are Toons or the Bird's nest and we are alreadying going to the Bird's nest on sunday. Let me know if everyone has any suggestions or knows of an alternative to Cobra they want to try.
I was thinking for Cerveza De Mayo about brewing single hop Pale Ale with Mosiac to really show all facets of that hop, early additions, late additions, all sorts of additions, kind of an educational thing for our own better understanding, and as kind of a cool thing for newer beer drinkers/non-beer nerds to experience. Then I was thinking how cool it would be to have a few folks brew the same recipe with the same hop schedule for different hops, maybe Mosaic, Nelson, Galaxy, and a few more. Maybe have them all at the same station so people could try them all then discuss.
The grain disposable bins, currently in front of the storage racks, seem to be leaking. I'm assuming there is a reason they are there and not outside, probably freezing temps if I remember, so I did not move them, I mopped up best I could, and left the mop in a strategic position to hopefully absorb future leakage. That was the best course of action I could think of, short of taking them back out.
Got a smack pack of Wyeast London ESB, dated Dec 10, it's getting old, was gonna use it for a recreation on a stout recipe from 1822 for stout night, but I was never able to brew it, and now I'm brewing spring beers so I likely won't brew a stout till late late summer. Anyway, it's free for the taking, I'm brewing Saturday morning, I'll leave it in the fridge, help yourself.
